Position objective:
Cargill business in Ukraine is represented mostly by CASC EMEA Group. As Ukraine is one of the major producers of agriculture commodities in the world, Cargill in Ukraine focuses on origination of grain and soft seeds for export. The nature of our business creates large tax exposure related to refund of the VAT that Cargill is paying to local farmers.
This is a newly created role and will be primarily responsible for managing the tax-related “know-your-customer” procedures, monitoring of the VAT refund process, the VAT audits, and business partnering on VAT matters with CASC and other Platforms operating in Ukraine. The job also includes but isn’t limited to providing VAT advice and support in relation to VAT compliance as well as maintenance of the ERP systems (existing and implementations). The person who fills this role will work with Cargill’s business units on a daily basis, providing advice on how to correctly handle transactions as well as assisting with audit coordination activities (e.g., record pulls, sufficiency of records, successful presentation of records to auditors etc.).
Responsibilities:
- 20% Manage “know-your-customer” procedures focused on the confirmation of reliable tax standing of Cargill’s suppliers. Monitor the legislator and practical; developments of “joint liability” concepts; monitor the Group personnel that performs the review and advice on the potential identified risks; make regular overview of the process to ensure its efficiency. Under the supervision of the Country tax manager to develop the methodology of the KYC process. While performing this responsibility, the holder of the position need to partner with the A&F of CASC and CPN businesses.
- 30% Participation in the management of uncertain VAT positions and handling of the tax audits. Under the supervision of the country tax manager to interact with the tax office in case uncertain/risky transaction are identified. Coordinate the provision of information to the tax office in the course of the audit; research tax technical issues; identify risks that might hinder Cargill’s right to refund VAT; participate in follow-ups for the business A&F team.
- 20% Participate in international indirect tax projects and coordinate their respective implementation in Ukraine. Advice on ERP system changes, business reorganizations and supply chain projects etc.
- 20% Document and improve VAT related business processes for the purpose of creating a control framework, such as the review of existing GL posting of purchase & sales transactions with a VAT code and the review VAT reconciliation processes.
- 10% Advice on VAT-related aspects of a day-to-day transaction of the businesses operating in Ukraine, incl. participate in the contract approval process.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Tax/Law/Finance and 4-6 years working experience in VAT, gained at a large tax consulting firm and/or in-house (in an international environment).
- Excellent knowledge of VAT
- Accurate. Attention to details
- Ability to work both in a team and independently.
- Project management experience and able to focus on VAT aspects in business processes.
- Proactive, hands-on and you take ownership.
- Able to work well on your own initiative
- Able to develop effective and pragmatic solutions to difficult business issues
- Ability to work well in an international “virtual” team
- SAP/ERP experience is a plus
- Strong stakeholder management skills and are able to manage and negotiate effective outcomes with a range of stakeholders.
- Fluent in English, Ukrainian and Russian
